Steve Hewlett is an International Comedy Ventriloquist who has been performing for three decades.

Steve was a budding ventriloquist at 12 years old performing at charity shows and talent competitions throughout his teens. His first vent figure was made by Geoff Felix, but today, most of Steve’s figures are made by Peter Pullon. Age 17 saw him working his first summer season at Barry Island Resort in South Wales, and turning professional at the age of 22. In 2016 Steve toured America and the UK with The Legendary Osmond’s, performing in residencies at The Moon River Theatre, Branson, Missouri and Falls Casino Niagara Falls, Canada.
Over the years he worked as additional support work for Sir Ken Dodd, Jethro, Brian Conley, Ricky Tomlinson, Rob Beckett, Hal Cruttenden, The Stylistics, Kenny G & Craig David to name a few also working alongside the best in Television including Sir Bruce Forsyth, Des O Connor, Jonathan Ross, Ant & Dec, Stephen Mulhern, Sacha Baron Cohen, Craig Revel Horwood & Simon Cowell.
Steve reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2013 which led to the Amazing opportunity of Touring with his own 45 date UK Theatre Tour 'Thinking Inside the Box' in 2014 followed by his 2nd UK Theatre Tour ’30 Years of Talking to myself’. Steve’s recent 3rd Tour was titled ‘VENTRILOQUEST’ A Life in the Day of Arthur Lager.
Steve also was a guest on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing & more TV followed on Eggheads, This Morning, The Alan Titchmarsh Chat Show, My Comedy Heroes with Ben Miller and has guested on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 and other radio stations up and down the UK. As a Ventriloquist, venues are important and Steve is proud to have worked some of the finest from Leeds City Varieties, The London Round House, Ronnie Scott’s, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Her Majesty’s Theatre, The London Palladium and The Royal Albert Hall in London including four Christmas seasons hosting The Incredible Thursford Christmas Spectacular in Norfolk and The Andy Williams Moon River Theatre, Branson. In the cruising world he has enjoyed performing on cruise ships from The Disney Magic to The famous QE2 and has entertained passengers in the docks of New York City, Sydney Harbour, Hong Kong and Dover.
During Lockdown in 2020 and 2021 Steve found time to edit his upcoming Book “Ventriloquest” paying tribute to his peers in the Art of Ventriloquism. Steve also presents a talk which delights you with pieces from the book sharing many years of research into the greatest ventriloquists in the World. This has encouraged Steve to write in entertainment columns for Variety Magazines ‘The Call Boy’ for the British Music Hall Society and the 100th edition of The Max Miller Appreciation Society.
Steve recently worked on a few variety documentaries one for Talking Pictures TV including A Home For Max Miller – The Cheeky Chappie (2022) and The Real Ken Dodd: The Man I Loved (2024).
In September 2020 he launched his brand-new lockdown podcast “Eyes & Teeth” interviewing his favourite comedy, magic & variety favourites from TV, Radio, Theatre, Corporate, Comedy Clubs and Cruises. The podcast ended in June 2024 with a 3-part tribute to Sir Ken Dodd which took the show up to 213 Episodes. March 2024 was the launch of the exciting new Entertainment Museum in Blackpool called Showtown. It's here you can see Steve’s Simon Cowell BGT dummy on display as well as Steve’s Masterclass of Ventriloquism on a screen for budding ventriloquists.
In 2024 Steve was back touring at Butlins & Haven and Warner Hotels, along with Theatre, Cruise Ships and corporate bookings ending the year playing Smee in Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal Nottingham for Crossroads Pantomimes keeping ventriloquism alive. Steve is a proud Water Rat, patron of the Max Miller Appreciation Society and patron of Eastbourne’s Royal Hippodrome Theatre.
In 2025 Steve turned 50 and is celebrating by hosting shows, performing in fantastic variety events and presenting his talk at the world’s largest Magic and Ventriloquist conventions in the UK & the USA. Laugh out loud at one of the UK's best loved comedy Ventriloquists.
