Morning : Two contrasting talks by experts of this unique theatrical genre with demonstrations on real theatres and short performances
"The Tiny World of Toy Theatres” – Trevor Griffin
Presentation featuring short films that provides the stories behind the Derby Museum Toy Theatre collections, telling the history of Toy theatre in England showing how it was created, performed and influenced well known people, including the great variety of Toy Theatres produced in other countries, ends with his animation of the last scene of the classic Webb's "Miller and his Men" set to the original music by Henry Bishop.
“Making and Performing Paper Theatre “– Sarah Peasgood
Inspirational talk providing an insight into the creative work of ‘Sarah’s Paper Theatre’, using examples from her own shows. From the art of comic strips to the magic of fairy tales and historical music hall shows, sharing tips from story adaptation, practical techniques through to staging a successful performance on the small stage.

Afternoon – “A Practical Introduction to Paper Theatre”
Experts will facilitate the session.
You will be provided with your own Toy Theatre pack which includes fully coloured scenes, characters and a script from a traditional play to cut out. In addition, a theatre proscenium and instructions on how to make a simple stage is available to construct. They are yours to take home to complete, ready to perform your new show.
You will learn how to cut & fix characters to slides, to hang scenery, to change scenery, set up the show ready to perform, move characters on & off stage for a simple theatre.
A demo theatre is available for practicing.
